Every week I’m uploading pictures of some Graphis pages from my personnal collection. Some issues are for sell (see the end of the post)

Though far removed from the cultural centres of the West, Japan has experienced a breath-taking boom in the fields of advertising art and design since the end of the second World War. In view of the reciprocal fertilization of the cultures of East and West and of the approaching world exhibition in Osaka in 1970 – on the preparation of wich Japan’s creative powers are gradually being concentrated – the moment seems opportune for taking stock of achievements up to date.

This special number begins with a brief backward glance at the traditional form-language of the katachi in Japan before advancing through an account of the training of the modern designer towards a survey of the most outstanding accomplishments of the last few years in the various designing fields. Japaneses experts tell us how their professions have evolved, what their present situation is and what trends seem likely to prevail in future.

If this issue fulfils its purpose, this will be due to a large extent to the institutions, organizations and individuals who have assisted us in collecting material and to the authors who have furnished informative texts. My special thanks go to my friends Hiromu Hara, Masaru Katzumie and Yusaku Kamekura for their valuable aid and advice.
